Word Nerd 10: Accountability v. Responsibility

The word responsibility comes from the word respond which comes from this random and yet cool word spondee (pronounced as spelled). Spondee is a rhythmic measurement for song and poetry that was typically sung/said when ancient Greeks poured libations during festivals and ceremonies. Spondee comes from the Proto-Indo-European word *spend and that word means "to make an offering, perform a rite." So to be responsible and to take responsibility for personal and collective acts is to make an offering of your existence and perform a rite (ritual and sacred act) with your livelihood. #responsibilityissacred #youaresacred
